First Grade Curriculum:
The First Grade adheres to curriculum guidelines determined by the Diocese of San Diego. Our curriculum covers all basic academic areas. In addition, special programs are offered during the school week in technology, music, art, Spanish, and physical education.
Meet the teacher:
Originally from the Washington, D.C. area, Renée Richard is a graduate of Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, Maryland. She holds a Master’s Degree from the University of South Dakota where she graduated summa cum laude and Bachelor’s Degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. During her undergraduate studies, she served on the President’s Society and graduated cum laude.
Mrs. Richard has worked in various academic settings including at the preschool level, running a volunteer academic development program for inner city youth, instructing university students in English Composition, and most recently as a substitute teacher here at St. Mary, Star of the Sea School. Mrs. Richard also has over a decade of technical writing and editing experience in the private sector for defense contractors and engineers. In this capacity she taught writing and editing workshops for industry professionals as well as authored internal style guides for corporate publications.
Mrs. Richard is enthusiastic about the rich curriculum into which her students will delve and looks forward to nurturing the rapid educational, personal, and spiritual growth that will ensue within each First Grader this year. She believes her students’ happiness, confidence, and overall well-being are central to their academic success. Fostering these personal and social aspects are paramount to her teaching style.
